Georgetown
Georgetown offers us a glimpse into the history of Central Texas with architectural treasures that set it apart from other communities in the Austin area. It is the county seat of Williamson County and is home to Southwestern University. It was named after George Washington Glasscock, the man who donated the land for the town.
The development of Georgetown accelerated around 1960, with adaptive restoration becoming common practice. Special emphasis has been directed towards a Main Street program as well as the private restoration of older homes. Downtown Georgetown features one of the best-preserved Victorian and Pre-WWI downtown historic districts around, with the Beaux-Arts Williamson County Courthouse as its centerpiece. Georgetown was named a national Main Street City in 1997.
